Reflective Writing

I only needed one more class to graduate so I chose The Marriage and Family Relations class. I am 53 years old, I have 5 married children who gave me 10 beautiful grandchildren. I figured I knew it all, boy was I wrong. This has been one of the best classes I've taken here at The Salt Lake Community College because I have gained the knowledge I need to help me to be a better mother and person in all my family and social relationships. The paper I chose for the signature assignment is about the stages of divorce. I was divorced 15 years ago and I really could have used the information in this text to help me navigate through this difficult time in my life. I think the information I learned could have helped me to understand my feelings and actions. I have enjoyed the discussions and the assignments which gave me the opportunity to think more about my life and the values I have even the tests pushed my basic knowledge of the family.  

 Reflective Writing

I chose this assignment because of the stage of life I'm in right now. I have been single for 15 years, I didn't chose to be single but here I am along with 101 million Americans age 18 or older who were either never married, divorced, widowed or seperated. Of this group 58% had never married. These statistics really grabbed my attention. If one adds the 3.32 million women and men who were never married but whose spouse was absent, 48.7 million males and 55.7 million females are living without a spouse (current population survey 2008). After reading chapter 9 on unmarried lives : Singlehood and Cohabitation I really received a reality check. It was sad and disappointing until I realized I'm the one who has control over my life and how it will be. I have chosen to be positive and full of love no matter what happens. I am not just a statistic I am a human being with hopes and desires for a long and happy life.
